History & Background: Formerly known as “Laem Chao” (God’s Cape), this southernmost point of Phuket Island historically served as a critical navigational landmark for merchant ships sailing through the Andaman Sea.
Significance: Beyond its maritime history, it is home to the Kanchanaphisek Lighthouse, built to commemorate King Rama IX’s 50th year on the throne. Extending dramatically into the sea, Promthep Cape is globally famous as one of the most beautiful spots to watch the sunset.
