History & Background: Built during the reign of King Rama III, the temple is deeply tied to Luang Pho Cham and Luang Pho Chuang, revered monk leaders who helped unify and heal local villagers during the Ang Yi (tin miner rebellion) uprisings in 1876.

Significance: The temple complex houses the Phra Mahathat Chedi, a grand pagoda enshrining a sacred relic of the Lord Buddha brought from Sri Lanka. It remains the most important and sacred Buddhist temple in Phuket.
